Matthew Hassell - Middle School T&F

Antioch, TN - January 30, 2026 - For more than two decades, Matthew Hassell has dedicated his life to shaping athletes, building leaders, and serving young people with excellence, purpose, and faith. With over 23 years of coaching experience, Matthew’s journey began at just 17 years old with Metro Parks and Recreation, where he coached football, basketball, track, and baseball. From the very beginning, his ability to connect with kids, motivate teams, and bring out the best in every athlete set him apart.

Guided by his belief in putting God first above everything, Matthew’s coaching philosophy is simple but powerful: serve with heart, lead with integrity, and pour into young people the same way God pours into him. That faith-driven approach is the foundation of how he coaches, mentors, and impacts every athlete he works with.

Matthew continued his athletic career at Middle Tennessee State University, playing football from 2005–2007 while majoring in Recreation Administration and Business Administration. His experience as a college athlete deepened his understanding of discipline, teamwork, and leadership—principles he now instills in every team he leads.

In addition to his long history in youth sports, Matthew proudly serves at Ezell Harding Christian School, where he was the assistant coach of the high school girls flag football team. In their very first season, the program made a historic run all the way to the state championship game, falling just short but proving that a strong foundation, heart, and hard work can take a new program far. That success set the tone for what’s possible under his leadership.

Matthew also stepped into a new role as the head coach of the middle school track team in its inaugural year. With a focus on discipline, development, and building confidence, he is working tirelessly to lay the groundwork for a strong, sustainable program that will continue producing great student-athletes for years to come.

What truly matters most to Matthew is the growth he sees in his athletes—spiritually, academically, emotionally, and athletically. He has always been the type of coach who goes above and beyond, whether it’s staying after practice for extra work, offering encouragement when life gets tough, or simply being a steady, positive presence in a kid’s life. If he could change one thing, it would be having more time to pour into the kids he mentors.

Faith-led, purpose-driven, and committed to excellence, Matthew Hassell continues to build programs, shape futures, and develop young men and women who are prepared to succeed on and off the field.
